miss you til i meet you

So, today tony and i went to Rhode island to see dar williams!!! it was a great show...although it was no ark in ann arbor show...the place was sooo small..it is called lupo's heartbreak hotel.
it is about 1/4 the size of the royal oak music theater...it was great, although the staff there were a bit cocky...when the doors opened, there was still a sound check going on and while we waited at the door to get in, the staff guy said to another "i bet i fall asleep tonight at least twice." can i just say how much i hate music snobs!!! i mean, i love all kinds of music, and i have my favorites, but i would never say shitty things about someone that i never heard of..
anyway on to the show...it was a crazy venue. there were cages in the corners of the place...but this club had all types of concerts there from tegan and sara to the wailers , helmet and ghostface?!??!?! weird...
it was small and there were only about 250 people there...and they did not move/talk/sing along/cheer, well a little bit af yelling when she played the christians and the pagans, but other than that, silence...it was crazzy...
here is the set list....
1. comfortably numb
2. teen for god ( my new favorite)
3. close to my heart
4. spring street
5. echoes
6. miss you till i meet you
7. another mystery
8. beauty of the rain
9. empire
10. the one who knows
11. after all
12. two sides of the river
13. mercy of the fallen
14. beautiful enemy
15. are you out there ( i have never heard her play this one live-YAY)
16. cool as i am
17. christians and the pagans
18. iowa

she didn't talk as much as she had at other shows that i have been to, but she did talk about "the one who knows" about how she wrote it before she was a mom and how she gets it more now...and then she said..."it looks like some of you may have kids and some of you were recently born, so i just want to tell you that your parents are thinking of you...and they miss you."
and i cried a little..(love ya mom :) )
it was amazing..
we did wait afterward for her, but we were hungry and didn't want to be there all night...so we left-although i got the set list from her sound guy :)
on another note!!!! sarah is coming to see us, and mark too!!! i can not wait!!! this is going to be a busy month for us...first sarah, then my mom and dad, then scott and carrie, and then eric and hopefully nick too!! YAY!!!!
but for now i am focused on sarah's visit...we are planning on loitering around fenway for the sox/yankees game!!! can't wait to see you two!!!

p-town adventures

It's been awhile since i posted, but tony and i have been feeling under the weather...which is not the best time to go apple picking, but we did!! we are too stubborn..we were not SICK sick, but a little crappy and i really wanted to go apple picking-so we did..in newhamsphire. it is so weird to drive to another state for things to do...the only state i am used to going to for something to do on a day trip is ohio, and seriously Ohio???!! anyway so we went, and it was a good time, but as soon as we got home, we crashed...slept the rest of the day i think...
this weekend we went to the cape...the very tip of the cape-

Provinetown...it was sooooo fun! it is like a mix of venice beach, ann arbor, and i would image key west.. only cold! well, like autumn cold, my favorite There are shops every step of the main street, my favorite is one called 'i used to be a tree,' it had everything from petrified wood ( we bought a piece that looks like a goddess is resting in the middle) to baskets and kids' toys made from recycled or unused lumber. there was also a store that looked and acted much like an army surplus store, it had the old pea coats and sleep shirt of the days past, but it also had ceramic dished from american airlines, when they used real plates and not plastic, and then cardboard...we bought a few dishes for s & g's and they looked pretty cute...anyway before going to the city, we drove along the national seashore...it iwas beauiful.. the coolest sand...big chunks, not like the fine white sand of mexico or california, but bigger grains...we walked along the beach for awhile, then headed to p-town for dinner....and shopping!! our actual plan when we woke up on saturay was to get our bikes hooked up the car and ride bikes along the shore, but we figured, since everything else closes early that that would be the same here-oh no..we were out shopping until 11!!! it was great...there was also a transvestite cabaret that i wanted to go to but we were underdressed and tired, so next time WE ARE SO THERE! well, we decided that next time we go we will stay over at one of the amazing little bed and breakfasts or tiny little beach houses there, so we can biek all day and then shower and go to the bars at night! fun!!!

the week in review

This week was so fun that i didn't have time to write at all...my mom and mike were visiting and unfortunately so was hurricane ophelia, well more of her entourage then her. it rained so flippin hard on thursday and friday, it sucked. and since tony and i had to work those days, we figured ( before the rainstorm) that they would take the T and hang out in Boston or check out harvard, but no luck..it was too rainy to even walk to the station. but i think we made up for it on saturday and sunday...
saturday tony and i took them to salem. we walked all over town and went to a museum that we ( tony and i) had not gone to before... it was pretty interesting. more history about the witch trials and the starting of yale university...although i don't think that we took too many photos this time, so i will have to wait until my mom gets hers developed. after the long walk through salem, we stopped off to get some booze-for home because we knew that the trains stop running at 12, and a cab costs and arm and a leg to get to our house, so we couldn't stay at the bar all night....after we dropped the drinks and mixers off, we headed to the pour house ( our favorite little burger and beer place.) then we came home and had some drinks-and i was super crabby damn PMS. i hope that my mom and mike will visit us again, i was a rotten b for a few days...oopsy

anyway, sunday we went to plymouth rock...with the intention of then heading to the cape, but we ended up hangin in plymouth for awhile...everything in MA is like that Dar Williams song "the ocean"- "Let me tell you the song of this town," You said, "Everything closes at five. After that, well, you just got the bars, You don't know how precious you are, walking around with your little shoes dangling, I am the one who lives with the ocean"
it is pretty right on...we didn't get to plymouth until like two minutes before 5 ( because we were dilly dallying) anyway we went to a few shops and bought some things we didn't need, and then to plymouth rock...
which is just as sad as the bald eagle at the detroit zoo with the "tether on" (cormac's soliloquy on american freedom was once noticing that the symbol of America was trapped in a tiny exhibit in the zoo, unable to fly)
anyway the plymouth rock is behind bars...well it is in a deep well that only water and snapshots can get into...because too many people were chipping pieces off of it...still it was pretty cool to see where people first landed and decided to stay here...although tony and mike said that they stayed here because there were already automatic flushing toilets and water fountains ( they are on the dock where the mayflower II is)
the tide was pretty low so we all 'walked on water' and went looking for shells and stones and sea glass...tony and i didn't walk all the way out to water because there were millions of nautilus snails and we didn't want to kill them, then we started to flip over rocks and we found some tiny crabs and bigger soft shelled ones it was fun.

unfortunately the fun has to end today...mom and mike rented a car and are currently driving home, while i have been on the couch for hours watching old movies...i feel like pooh!!! sore throat and headache, all sorts of misery :P
oh well tony and i are off to watch movies that we actually paid to rent, while i complain about how crappy i feel and drink some tea!

i'm a whale watcher

Today we rushed home from work so that we could go to sleep and get up to go whale watching...it was so fun!!! we saw humpback and finback whales...they were beautiful and amazingly graceful for being so large. I can not describe in words, if you plan on visiting us while we are here, try and go!!! they swam really near our boat, and then dove back into the water. i haven't seen all the photos yet ( some i took with my old school camera) but hopefully we got some really great ones, along with the really great wind/sunburn that tony and i got. my mom and mike got a little too, but what the heck! and i totally wore sunscreen, in fact we all did, but we sat on the front of the boat and it was going really fast at one point, like my om couldn't keep her hair under control. contrary to popular belief, they do not breach ( jump in the air) as much as they show on the learning channel.

our trip was through the new england aquarium, so our guide was an employee there who knew her stuff! the trip that left early in the day had seen baskin sharks, but we did not. oh well..
afterwards, we went to paul revere's house and took the tour of his house...cool...only no pictures allowed in the house-whatev's.
then for our favorite part...dinner at g'vannis, that is the place that tony and i went to for the two dinners and bottle of wine for 19.99...we like it so much that we took mom and mike there!!! and then, once again, stumbled out of there and went to quincy market and fanueil hall...we were tired from the boat ( and hammered from the wine) so we went home. i actually fell asleep on the train, yikes...oh well...now we are home-sobered up and mom is alseep on the couch. we are having a few drinks with mike. but tomorrow and friday we have to work again ( and we agreed to work another 14 hour shift!) oh yeah...we are going to be stying here for three weeks extra-yay!! we were going to come home and take three weeks off, but they want us to stay, so we said yes!
oh yeah, we have some great pictures that i wanted to add, but it is not working, so i will try to update and add them tomorrow!

we're back!!!!

this weekend tony and i went home for jay and cathy's wedding!!! it was so beautiful. i am so happy for them...not just the marriage, but cathy has started pharmacy school, albeit right before her wedding, and still she looked so stress free and amazingly beautiful. it was nice to see two people so in love and everything seemed just so perfect for them!
so...after a 13 hour drive home, with mom and mike in tow, we took a lil' nap and then headed to Marina bay for dinner-and it sucked!!! i was thinking that it would be like the beaches in california, or even around the lakes in michigan. but it was really tiny and the first place that we went in for dinner and drinks sucked so bad i wanted to die! we sat outside and ordered drinks, after waiting for like 20 minutes, we just left!!! it was too hot and we were all not in the mood for that crap, so we went to another restaurant, that was very red lobster-ish ( tony's words)
it was really nice though ( even though we sat inside because it was too hot!) we came home and as we were making drinks, we lost mom and mike-they both fell asleep!!! too much fun i guess...so tomorrow we have to work, but we will be going whale watching on weds! I CAN NOT WAIT!!!
oh yeah, while we were gone, ben and sam stayed here because they had a wedding in mass to come to! how cute are they??!?!?! they washed our sheets and towels that they used ( and they folded our clothes that we left in the dryer-oops, thanks guys!!!) not to mention left a nice bottle of wine that we will have post whale watching!! hope you guys had fun!

"momma i'm comin' home"

So this weekend was a tad depressing...i missed Sarah's birthday, even though i know that i will see her in a few days... i still missed all the fun, and i have never missed any of her birthdays since i've met her. plus Scott and Carrie are siding their house ( not that that sounds like fun) but i miss my family and the way they function together, because i know that my mom made food and my dad went over there to supervise ( just kidding dad!) and they had fun hanging out while doing it. Also the kids went up north and that is always a good time.... but i will wallow no more, because i have three days of work ahead of me and then i am coming home!!! i know that it will be a busy weekend, with Jay's wedding and stuff, but at least i get to see everyone!!!
To brighten the weekend up, i went shopping for the rest of sarah's present on saturday! and then (we didn't go) but i found a coldstone creamery out here-tony was very excited! Then Tony and i went to see the 40-year-old virgin! Holy shit, i laughed so hard that my belly hurt afterward. GO SEE IT!
It was a little chilly this weekend- The weather is getting close to my favorite fall days!!! i can't wait for the fall...i have already been looking for apple orchards near us! and i can't wait for people to come and visit in the fall!
