dawn of the dolls!

This past weekend Tony and i drove down to LA to visit with adriana and to see her skate in her first ever real bout!
we got in about 2am, spent some time talking and then cozied up in her giant bed! thanks again AY. she slept on an air mattress -refusing to let us sleep there!
The next morning, um afternoon, we walked to get brunch at a cute little French bistro, whose name escapes me and did a bit of shopping around her neighborhood.

As soon as we get back to her place, she had to start getting ready...
we dropped her off at the mall wher the girls skate and headed on a journey to find a rite aid so that i could make her a sign!

i found one and then once the sign was completed, we headed in.
alas, the fight club, 2006 champs( and the chicks that adriana got to skate with) did not win-boo...but it was a hell of a game... tony screamed so much that he didn't have his whole voice for a few days... unfortunately NO cameras are allowed, so i didn't get any shots of her skating. but i have to say, she kicked ass!
afterwards we went to get some food at Pete's. and then off to meet the dolls at the bar.
once we got kicked outta the bar we headed back to AY's for more girl ( and boy) talk.
we slept until noonish and then took our sweet time going to lunch...before lunch we went to the vintage soda pop store, where i somehow managed to spend like 45 bucks ( even though i don't really drink soda) i loved the bottles and can't wait for us to have a house so i have a place to put them all. by that time, we were all starving...

tony really wanted roscoe's chicken and waffles ( of swinger's fame) so we went there for a carb explosion lunch...on our table we had : mac and cheese, cornbread, candied yams, a buckwheat waffle, come random pieces of chicken that i could not name if i had to, iced tea, fresh squeezed lemonaid, and some eggs...after all that we needed a nap.
so that is exactly what we did. went back to ay's and took a little cat nap..
by the time the carbs began to wear off, tony and i needed to hit the road- we wanted to leave while it was still light out so we could see the ocean on the pacific coast highway...
i had such a great time. i can't wait to live closer to her!
oh crap, i almost forgot on the drive home there was this semi in front of us that was serving all over the lanes for like 30 miles.. i was a little afraid to pass the driver because the truck was literally all the way in the left lane, and then would swerve all the way onto the shoulder, so tony and i did some crime busting and called the police... it was more nerve racking than the mystery that we were listening to on cd...we noticed the police car behind us and right when we realized that it was the police that we called, the truck swerved into the left land and almost on the left shoulder!!! crazy..
other than that excitement, we made it home safe, just in time to get some sleep and go to work the next day!

looks who's famous on the online nursing circuit

Just kidding. tony and i were interviewed for a few articles about husband and wife travel teams.. here is one of them

Loving Married Life on the Road
By Debra Wood, RN, contributor
Enjoying a seemingly endless honeymoon, Angela and Tony Bono, couldn’t be happier. The two registered nurses met in a Detroit trauma center, began traveling together with leading travel staffing company O’Grady Peyton International in 2005, and married last fall.
“We get to work and play,” Angela Bono said. “You go somewhere and know you have to work for three days a week, but you base your travel on where you want to spend the time.”
Angela Bono heard about travel nursing at a job fair while still in nursing school. She decided then she would try it out, as soon as she gained some experience. Starting to feel “too comfortable” as a staff nurse at the inner-city trauma center, she decided it was time to see the country.
“Traveling forces me to learn something new,” Angela Bono said. While still working in emergency departments, “I get better experience in areas I wasn’t comfortable with before traveling.”
Tony Bono also works in the ED. They met while working at the trauma center and decided to travel together.
“I wasn’t very fulfilled doing the trauma any more,” Tony Bono said.
The couple has found most hospitals willing to accommodate their need for the same weekends off and, since they share a car, not to assign shifts in which one of the nurses is coming off duty when the other is coming on. With emergency departments plenty busy, Angela and Tony rarely spend five minutes together if assigned to the same shift.
“It has worked out well,” Angela Bono said.
Whether in suburban Boston, Flagstaff, Arizona, or Fairfax, Virginia, nurses readily welcome the pair, show them around and offer them tips about the workflow. Within a couple of weeks, Angela Bono feels like she has been at that facility a long time. She considers confidence in one’s nursing skills a prerequisite for successful travel experiences.
“The most challenging part is just when you get used to a hospital and the physical plant, you have to up and leave,” Tony Bono said. “Also you’re trying to gain the trust of the docs.”
The Bonos ask nurses who live in the area to recommend places to see and things to do on their days off. They visited the Grand Canyon during their Tucson assignment. In Boston, they soaked up the history and ambiance of the bustling city, while in Flagstaff, they enjoyed hiking or biking in Arizona’s natural environs.
“Working as core staff and living in our home state, there are things we wouldn’t have been able to do,” said Angela Bono, explaining that a typical weeklong vacation leaves little time to learn the culture. Staying three or more months presents opportunities to soak up the area’s customs and slang.
“I really like the ability to get out and see the country and get a flavor of what the entire country has to offer,” Tony Bono said.
Angela and Tony Bono plan to continue traveling for a few more years, making new friends and saving for a house. Not having to pay rent lets them sock away extra money. Then they expect to settle down near family in Michigan. Even so, Angela said she would consider accepting travel assignments within the state to learn more about what the hospitals offer. Until then, they will enjoy life on the road, discovering new places and meeting interesting people.

get on your bikes and ride

I know queen wasn't singing about bicycles, in this song anyway.

Tony and i went on a 3 and half hour bike ride today. we live in the best part of the city... we live about 6 miles from part of the san francisco bay and marshlands. We rode all around bayland's nature preserve. We saw some really interesting wildlife, ground squirrels and of course the very popular golf course air force ( canadian geese) we also stopped in our tracks and turned around when we saw one of these.. only later when got home did we look it uo and find out it is not venomous, but a contrictor...a gopher snake...oh well after all that riding, we are heading out to relive our honeymoon and have dinner at an irish pub ( we'll be married 6 monthes this weekend)
